Six hundred acres of hills, caves, gardens and a zoo on the east bank of the Li River — the place to spend a slow half-day rather than tick off a sight.
Seven Star Park is the biggest green space in Guilin and the oldest comprehensively laid out one, 1.5 kilometres east of the centre on the bank of the Li River. It is named for the seven peaks scattered across it, arranged — with some imagination — like the Dipper constellation. Within its boundaries you get hills, water, caves, rock inscriptions, gardens, and a small zoo.
Most Guilin sights are single objects: one hill, one cave, one bridge. This is a whole landscape in miniature, which is exactly how the Chinese describe it — a condensed version of Guilin's scenery in one walled area. If you have a half-day spare and want to walk rather than be driven, this is where to spend it.
The Seven Star Cave inside the park is the main cave attraction and is a separate ticket. The Flower Bridge and the Camel Hill are the photographic spots. The zoo is modest and skippable unless you have children who need a break from scenery.
