Early pickup from your Guilin hotel

The earliest start of any trip we run. The cloud sea is a morning phenomenon — if you arrive at midday you will see rock, not cloud.

Arrive at the scenic area

Ticket office, then either the cable car or the stepped path up to the ridge.

Climb to the viewpoint

About an hour on foot, or fifteen minutes by cable car plus a short walk. The ridge path links several viewpoints.

Midday

Walk the ridge

The classic view looks down over Hunan on one side and Guangxi on the other. Two to three hours covers the main viewpoints.

14:00

Descend and drive back

Back in Guilin around 16:30-17:00.

Before you go

This is a genuine hike — 1 to 1.5 hours uphill on stone steps. Not suitable if you have serious knee or heart problems.
The sea of clouds mostly appears from March to May, after rain, early in the morning. It is never guaranteed.
Bring water and snacks — there is very little on the mountain.
Cable car is available and costs extra; it saves the climb but not the ridge walk.

Questions

What makes Bajiao Zhai different from Longji?

Different landscape entirely. Longji is green terraced rice paddies carved by farmers; Bajiao Zhai is red Danxia sandstone, sharp peaks and gorges. If you have already seen terraces, this is the more contrasting day.

Will we actually see the sea of clouds?

Not guaranteed. It needs the right combination of humidity and temperature, mostly March to May after rain. Even without cloud the ridge views are spectacular — but be realistic about it.

How strenuous is the climb?

Moderate to hard. About 1 to 1.5 hours uphill on stone steps, then 2 to 3 hours relatively level along the ridge. If that sounds too much, take the cable car up.

Is the cable car included?

No, it is paid separately on site. Entrance tickets are also not included in the car price.

Why does this cost more than the Longji trip on the 7-seat vehicle?

It is a longer day — about 9 hours against 8 — and further from Guilin. On the 5-seat sedan it is the same price as Longji; on larger vehicles it reflects the extra distance and hours.

Can we combine this with Guilin city sights?

Not comfortably — the day already runs nine hours. Keep it as a dedicated day and do the city separately.
